Tacos!

Another few things have come up to add to my "San Bernardino is special" file
1. That big meat recall? With the humane society and all? From San Bernardino County
2. Robbery, sure. but stealing tacos?
Robber only wants tacos

FONTANA - An armed robber who sneaked up on a bicyclist Sunday night didn't want the man's money, wallet or anything else of great value. He wanted tacos.
The victim, a 35-year-old Fontana man, had just bought about $20 in tacos from a stand at San Bernardino and Fontana avenues and was riding home when the bandit confronted him. "He approached him from behind, saying, `Give me your tacos,"' said police Sgt. Jeff Decker. "He grabbed the bag of tacos, punched him in the face and began to flee."
The victim demanded his tacos back when they were taken.
"The suspect then pointed what appeared to be a black handgun at the victim," Decker said.
The taco bandit, standing about five feet from the victim, threatened to kill him, then ran.
Police said the robbery was at 9:15 p.m. on Hawthorne Avenue east of Catawba Avenue.
The suspect is described as a 25- to 30-year-old man, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 190 pounds. He has brown hair and eyes and wore a black hooded sweat shirt. The man also had a long mustache.
Decker said food robberies are not uncommon when the victim is delivering pizzas, but he considered this crime to be odd.
"Doing an armed robbery for tacos, that's a little out there," he said.

Coffee. now.

We got a new coffeemaker; at work. It is trying very hard to solve all possible coffee related problems, but it's a little terrifying.

I went and read the website about it and supposedly "The new ‘funky’ look combines an almost retro feel with modern ergonomics". I think that nothing about this coffeemaker could actually be described as ergonomic.

Also it  "
stimulates with a welcoming, easy and fun to use interface". Especially when I want coffee, I do not want to be stimulated with a welcoming and fun interface. I want a coffee button that gives me coffee. now.

I'm also a little freaked out by the "Creamy topping"; pod. Supposedly this enables the machine to make lattes and so on.

However, I find it very satisfying to read the nutrition information they provided and add up the mg's of caffeine I'm consuming throughout the day. zing :)

Stories that start with "we"

This story is perfect in the same way as the one that made me fall in love with public radio Haruki Murakami's On seeing the 100% perfect girl one beautiful April morning

Both fit in some way with how I feel now; and how I feel now is a happier lonely than I've been for a long time. I find myself thinking positively about the simplest pair-wise things, such as someday talking with someone and starting a sentence with "Remember when we...", and these simple one line future stories make me smile like an idiot.

Minimal standards

Last week in the veggie box, I got more green beans, so today I finally got around to eating them, or most of them. Unfortunately, I sort of carmelized them because I decided to play on the computer while they steamed. Fortunately, it actually tasted carmelized instead of burnt. I made some version of a honey balsamic sauce to put on them, and that turned out fine though I erred on the side of vinegar. Zozo came over to smell what I was doing and had a really funny sneezing fit after smelling the vinegar. Jaxby also tried to help cook by curling up in the frying pan while I was trimming the ends from the green beans. Super cute, intensely unsanitary, and of course he got up before I got the camera to take a picture of Cat: Pre-Saute.

If I ever cook food for you, I promise I will have washed out the pans before cooking in them and will not let my cats sneeze into your food.

First 5K!

I slowly jogged all but a teeny bit of a 5k today with much encouragement from a friend who was visiting from out of town, but decided to spend 40 minutes of the day sweating with me. :) The weather page says it was only 85 degrees, but it sure felt hotter. I think I've almost never been that sweaty before.

Dinner was tasty sushi, and I'm excited to have a new place to recommend.

good day, now i'm tired.

What's your daemon?

I got my hair chopped off yesterday. I've been having some angst so I tried ridding myself of it by losing 12 inches of hair. It didn't quite work, but at least I will spend less of my near-term life with wet hair now.

I saw Stardust yesterday and found it sappy, beautiful and charming. Not as far out there on the beautiful scale as Mirrormask, but that would be hard to do.

My parents are coming to visit this week so I've finally called the plumber to deal with the fact that my bathtub has water under it (slosh slosh) and am looking forward to being able to freely bathe in my own house, though it may mean that I will go to the gym less compulsively now.

The jogging went super well on Saturday, especially since the weather was unnaturally perfect for summer.

Zozo got goopy eye over the weekend, and spent Saturday evening and Sunday following me around being snuffly and sad, but was completely recovered by like 4am this morning when he and Jaxby decided to play endless amounts of chase. awww, kitties :)

I also bought the His Dark Materials trilogy and plan to read those obsessively for a while. I want a daemon.

'No one belongs here more than you'

I heard a great short story on a podcast of Public Radio International's Studio 360. There's an excerpt here.

Besides that, life is sort of busy. With the new kitten, I have a lot more incentive to come home promptly at night, but I'm also greatly enjoying my current jogging and generic exercise fit. Yesterday and today it finally stopped being disgustingly hot which was super. I discovered that if I'm not out running on the hottest day of the year (which was Weds) I can in fact meet my goals for minutes of jogging/walking. Today was (10 min jog + 1 min walk) x3.

Jaxby and Zozo are getting along great. Cutesy photos will be on flickr tomorrow.
